I saw the new Trek tonight
It's totally awesome. Get thee to a theater before somebody spoils it for you.

I totally loved it with a capital L. But unfortunately, I went there with my father who complained that it was 'unrealistic'. Excuse me? Since when is science fiction supposed to be realistic? Grrrr. Unfortunately, there is no one else in my life I could have gone to this movie with.

Oh, no one else I know can stand SF. I don't quite know how that happened. I seem to know all these girls who like chick flicks! Even my husband doesn't appreciate science fiction. My sister will go with me sometimes, but she's a mom so she's pretty busy.

bummer. i'm a mom too, but I have a husband and two teenage boys who like SF so I'm lucky that i always have guys to go with that like it as much (almost) as I do:)

sometimes my hubby will see a chick flick with me but i don't care much about them so if we go it's usually because it's one he secretly wants to see:)

Sounds like he was just being a grouch to me. I expect SF to be "realistic" within the core concept but complaining that the movie in general was unrealistic when he knew going in it was about space ships with warp drive and aliens is just being a killjoy.

Exactly! I don't understand why he took against that extremely enjoyable and excellent movie when he's been a fan of science fiction forever. I think he was just in a bad mood and didn't like the young James Kirk character.

My husband and I have very rarely seen movies together. There have been a few we both liked, however. I still, after ten years, haven't nailed down his style. He basically likes watching the news on TV and I like escapism. I'm not a chick flick kind of person, especially romantic comedies.

You're lucky your sons like the same movies that you do do. My sister's kids are little boys, but they're already shaping up to like the kind so movies I like, so I'm hoping that in the near future they can be my movie companions!
