The Big Questions - Inuyasha
Still having intermittent moments of sqeee over the first episode of the new Inuyasha series and I got to thinking about some of the questions we never got answered in canon. Just about every fandom with a big following comes up with things they are dying to learn about the characters or the world and sometimes we even like the answers when we get them. When we don't we can have fun debating them.

In addition to voting please post explaining why you voted the way you did. Include as much supporting information as you want. Rant away, there are plenty of electrons to spare. I just ask that any disagreements are kept polite. I'll probably be doing more of these with other fandoms or even a second set of IY if I think of other questions. Suggestions are welcome you can email me through my profile.

Trying your hand at your own poll is highly encouraged. Just let me know so I can play too.

Poll #1468333 The Big Questions: Inuyasha

If Kagura had lived, would she and Sess have been a couple?

Yes! They were perfect for one another!
Of course not! Sess and Rin are destined to be together.
Maybe, does it matter?

Rin is an old soul showing special insight even before she dies and is reborn. There's been speculation that Rin is the reincarnation of someone from the past. Is she...

An intermediate reincarnation between Kikyou and Kagome?
Someone I've forgotten about?
Completely original?

It's also been suggested that Mama Higurashi might have a recycled soul. Is she...

Someone else?

Midoriko - Completely trapped within the jewel or did part of her soul reincarnate as Kikyou/Kagome?

I believe Inuyasha's age has important implications for his relationship with Kagome. If he ages like a human, or close to it, then he can grow old with her, . If he has centuries to live then he is destined to have to listen to Queen wailing about who wants to live forever while he trudges away from her grave still a young man. What do you think?

He ages like a human, although a particularly healthy one. His behavior is that of a guy in his mid-teens and surely if he had lived for decades he would have gotten some life experience.
He's 200 (150 if he stopped aging while on the tree) the anime says so. Poor Inu.
He's even older than that.

How do youkai age anyway?

Like ElfQuest elves they age like humans until they hit puburty and then slow down. Shippou really is 6.
Slowly and steadily. It would vary by species with some aging one year for every decade and some taking even longer. Imagine the diaper bills!

Sesshoumaru's relationship with Inuyasha:

He must have kept an eye on him or Inu wouldn't have survived. Those attacks at the beginning were meant as training.
Being a spoiled brat Sess really did want to kill Inu and it was only after Rin he has a change of heart.
Takahashi totally changed her mind along the way and continuity got buggered.

Hey, after that many years she's entitled but that's the option I picked.

Re: Greetings!

I drive 45 minutes each way to work. Gives me time to think about stuff.

Sesshoumaru and Kagura: To be fair, while I do like him and older!Rin, I really don't know what, if anything, would have happened. And since she died I personally don't think what ifs matter in this case ^^;

Inuyasha's age: I'm sort of surprised you didn't have an "other" option on here. I, for one, believe he ages slower than humans but not quite as slow as the anime claims. I... think I picked the 200 one because it's the closest there was to "over 15, but not 150." XD;

Youkai aging: I think it depends on the youkai and it could depend on the spieces. Certain ones could be the first option, others could be the second, some could be entirely different. I think it's pretty strongly implied that they age slower than humans, however.

Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha: ...I just want him to actually be a jerk at the beginning. I really do XD

Wow, I haven't thought about a lot of that in a while o_O

Sess/Kagura - It is rather a moot point except in AU stories but how we think he felt about her does color how we view his actions for the rest of the series and how we map out his emotional development from the jerk at the beginning to the kind of person who would bring nice gifts to a human girl.

I should have put an other option and would go back and add it (and fix the awful typo) but I can't figure out how to edit a poll. It must be possible but the text doesn't show up when I try to edit the entry.

well, I've always seen the posibility of Sess/Kagura - they got a common enemy and they both 'take care of' a human (although Kagura is a bit cold but then wasn't Sesshy too?)

Rin could be a reincarnated Kikyo; just a gut feeling. the mom is Kaede. from what I know about reincarnation, sometimes souls travel together. Mido is totally trapped.

Inu is probably a lot older than 200, maybe 500 or more. demons age but slowly maybe at 1/100 or 1/1000 a human's rate.

and I don't think Sesshy cared about anyone really until Rin came along. he didn't care about Inu, he accepted that Inu was part of the family (although not an equal member to him at all) and expected that Inu played a role 'appropriate' for a hanyou (a submissive role).

If Rin were the next incarnation after Kikyou then it would explain some of the tremendous growth of that soul by the time Kagome comes along but she doesn't have any of the issues that Kikyou had. It works either way for me.

I think souls do travel together and I like the idea that in a story where reincarnation plays a big part in the main plot there are other people showing up in multiple roles among the supporting cast.
