*having sympathy pangs*

Red-headed spawn came down with H1N1 yesterday and is now on Tamiflu, so we have plenty of hackin', sneezin', coughin', achin' and dyin' happenin' over here, too!

Feel better soon!

Poor baby! Keeping my fingers crossed that you don't have to deal with the whole family getting sick.

Too late, Ethel. Feni came down with the first round of symptoms (sore throat & body aches) today. Not enough of 'em to go get Tamiflu, but if I have the fever & headache by this afternoon, I'll be on my way to the doctor.

Bah. SO didn't need this!

Ack! I've been lucky I had a sore throat, body aches, congestion and felt dizzy but no real fever so I think I just got a passing virus.

Time to brew up some ginger tea and dump a nice shot of whiskey in it

I did the honey-orange-rum combo last night. Cap'n Jack would've been proud.

I'm glad that you're feeling better; beats the heck out of several days of this.

However, I think the fever's starting to kick in, dammit.

To the probable shame of my paternal ancestors I don't like rum.

Okay, now I have this image in my head of the ghostly ancestors from Mulan except it's my Spanish ancestors being jeered at by my Scottish ancestors in voices that owe more to Montgomery Scott than any real accent:

"Oh, now see she knows a REAL drink, don't she?"

There are several grades of rum; I like the 'golden' or 'amber', but my dad only drinks the 'white'. White rum is kinda like vodka, in that it is a nearly-neutral mixer. You might find that you enjoy one of the lighter grades.

I, on the other hand, don't care for whisky OR whiskey, no matter which continent it calls home!

Once when we were visiting my grandfather in Puerto Rico my father bought me a large cup of pure fresh pressed cane juice from a roadside vendor when we were driving across the island to visit some relative or another. I got really quesy and the taste of rum reminds me of cane juice so there is a built in yuck factor. No problem with cane sugar though, which makes no sense at all.

Perhaps there's an allergen in the raw form (that is subsequently extracted in the sugar making process) your body was warning you about? I have a girlfriend who is deathly allergic to fresh lemon juice in salad dressing and what not... but she can ingest it if it is cooked, like as a flavouring in cheesecake.

Maybe, but it's probably just that too much sugar and the heat and the motion of the car made me queasy and there's a conditioned response that that taste = queasy.

That's a really strong aversion to have lasted this long! Mind you, I have a similar one to Newfie Screech; it's a regional CDN variant of moonshine that can take paint off of car hoods, not to mention remove your stomach lining. *shudders*
